The Capital District Speedskating Club was formed a number of years ago and continues to provide skaters from all over the capital region an opportunity to experience the exciting sport of Short Track Speedskating. We have a number of experienced skaters as well as many first timers. Our past club president, Howard Ganong has a number of national and world titles to his credit and has been active in the sport for many years. We have been fortunate to have Paul Marchese act as "our primary coach" for a while now and he has a number of credits to his resume as well. Most recently Paul was the Equipment Director for the US Olympic team in Torino, Italy. Paul also owns and operates a custom skate boot factory and now outfits 80% of the top teams around the world. Marchese Racing is located in Coxsackie, NY. In addition we have two assistant coaches who will work with the less experienced skaters; Howard Ganong and Jonathan White.
The club has several pairs of "loaner skates" available for use by new skaters. We don't have all sizes but we do maintain a good selection and offer them for use for 3 or 4 weeks (depending on demand) to allow new skaters time to purchase their own equipment. We have several sets of knee pads and hard shell helmets for use as well.
We also offer the first night of skating at no charge for new skaters who want to see what speed skating is all about. Visiting speed skaters from other clubs or areas are also welcome but our regular ice fees apply.
